1. General information
Prosthesis II, a compulsory subject, complements Prosthesis I of the first four-month period. The fundamental aspects related to occlusion and removable prostheses are developed in them . Other interesting aspects of edentulism, the immediate or implant-retained prosthesis, are now also studied, all in a unique way within the degree, from where the importance of their understanding comes from. The introduction to implant-retained prosthetics will serve to pave the way for its more specific study on other disciplines.
The general objectives of the subject can be summarized as follows:
1. Differentiate dental prostheses.
2. Know the characteristics of immediate prostheses.
3. Know and practice maintenance in Removable Prosthesis.
4. Know and practice the characteristics and work sequences of partial removable prostheses
5. Introducing Implant-Retained Removable Prostheses.
These approaches and objectives are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2030 ( in such a way that the acquisition of thehttps://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/), learning results of the subject provides training and competence to contribute to some extent to their achievement: Goal 3: Health and Wellness.
Recommendations for taking the subject
It is advisable to have taken and passed the subject Prosthesis I.
2. Learning results
- Understand and differentiate the different types of Dental Prosthesis.
- Understand the basics of immediate prosthesis.
- Know and practice the maintenance techniques of removable prosthesis.
- Learn about the characteristics of the design and construction of Removable Partial Dentures.
- Learn about the characteristics of Implant-retained Removable Prostheses.
In a context of mostly liberal practice, the knowledge of the bases for the development of the profession acquired by taking the subject allows the student to be effective in the treatment of the specific pathology of partial edentulism. Knowing how to develop a series of techniques in a sequenced and disciplined way will also help to understand the exercise of the profession as needing technical and human knowledge, not only artistic.

4. Academic activities
The learning process designed for this subject is based on the following:
EXPOSITORY SESSIONS.

PRE-CLINICAL PRACTICES.
The learning activities that have been programmed for this subject include the following activities:
- Explanatory sessions by the teacher.

- Resolution of clinical cases
- Preclinical laboratory practices.

5. Assessment system
In general, in accordance with Royal Decree 1125/2003, the evaluation will be carried out continuously throughout the semester, by means of:
Objective knowledge test. It is a written exam that will consist of a clinical case type question to be developed that may contain one or more sections. It will be necessary to obtain 6 points (out of a possible 10) to pass, bearing in mind that both the theoretical content and the forms of expression of the topics (syntactic and orthographic expression of the writing) will be evaluated. This objective test will contribute 50% to the final grade.
Work performance and its defence, presentation of the resolution of problems and development of practical cases. This evaluation activity will contribute 20% to the final grade and is passed with a 5 out of 10.
Performance of practical exercises and evaluation of the technical skills developed in the preclinical practices with a small final practical exam where the knowledge obtained during the development of the same will be evaluated. This evaluation activity will contribute 30% to the final grade and is passed with a grade of 5 out of 10
Requirements to pass the subject:
- It will be necessary to have passed all parts of the subject-
- Failure to attend practices without justification will make it impossible to pass this part of the subject and therefore the whole subject.
- Repeated unpunctuality to practical sessions may be considered as a failure to attend them and will mean an impossibility to pass this part of the subject and, therefore, the whole subject.
